New Interim Engineering Librarian appointed

The UNL Libraries announced December 16, 2013 that Ted E. Naylor was appointed Interim Engineering Librarian and started on December 1, 2013.  In his role he will be liaison to the College of Engineering and all of its units from Architectural Engineering to Mechanical Engineering. Naylor has worked for the UNL Libraries since January 2006 in the position of Special Projects Librarian and was responsible for projects assigned to him by the Dean of Libraries, including reviewing, negotiating, and completing vendor license agreements, the assessment of the Engineering Library, and evaluating policies for digitization projects.

Before joining UNL, Naylor worked as the Interlibrary Loan Librarian at both the Wichita State University in Kansas from 1993-2005, and the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas from 1989-1992. Naylor received his Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma and his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Oklahoma State University.

Naylor says his main focus will be working with Engineering faculty and students to help evaluate the Engineering Library’s print collection to prioritize high-use materials to stay on site and move low-use materials to the LDRF or satellite storage.

“I will also be working with faculty to determine what they need from an Engineering Librarian in terms of reference, instruction, and assistance with research,” explains Naylor.

Naylor’s office will be in the Engineering Library, W204R Nebraska Hall, and he can be reached at 402-472-3412 or tnaylor2@unl.edu.

Happenings in the Engineering Library

The Engineering library is full of many perks.  Today marked the highly anticipated return of free, freshly made popcorn on Wednesdays.  They also offer free BYOM (bring your own mug) coffee in the mornings Monday-Friday.  But that’s not all, the engineering library’s microwave is also back in business.

Besides going there for just the free popcorn and coffee, you can sit down and study in their three new study rooms that are now open north of the library.  They are open on a first come, first serve basis.

Lastly, the clutter in the Engineering library is finally going to be put away.  Their new Library Services desk has been installed and will soon be put to use.  This means that everything will finally be put back in to its rightful place and that we will see the engineering library back in order soon.

Engineering Library renovation starts soon!

Construction in the Engineering Library begins Wednesday, June 26, and will continue through the summer.
To accommodate our patrons during this time, a temporary circulation area has been set up, and office spaces have been moved to an enclosed study area. The library will remain open through the summer with study areas, computer stations, and other services available for our patrons (summer hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm).
