As some of you may have noticed there has been some construction on Love Library this past week.  The construction is replacing the roof over Love North and the Link.  Love Library will remain open during holiday and regular hours throughout this re-roofing project.  Completion date is scheduled for March 2014.

New Interim Engineering Librarian appointed

The UNL Libraries announced December 16, 2013 that Ted E. Naylor was appointed Interim Engineering Librarian and started on December 1, 2013.  In his role he will be liaison to the College of Engineering and all of its units from Architectural Engineering to Mechanical Engineering. Naylor has worked for the UNL Libraries since January 2006 in the position of Special Projects Librarian and was responsible for projects assigned to him by the Dean of Libraries, including reviewing, negotiating, and completing vendor license agreements, the assessment of the Engineering Library, and evaluating policies for digitization projects.

Before joining UNL, Naylor worked as the Interlibrary Loan Librarian at both the Wichita State University in Kansas from 1993-2005, and the Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas from 1989-1992. Naylor received his Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma and his Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Oklahoma State University.

Naylor says his main focus will be working with Engineering faculty and students to help evaluate the Engineering Library’s print collection to prioritize high-use materials to stay on site and move low-use materials to the LDRF or satellite storage.

“I will also be working with faculty to determine what they need from an Engineering Librarian in terms of reference, instruction, and assistance with research,” explains Naylor.

Naylor’s office will be in the Engineering Library, W204R Nebraska Hall, and he can be reached at 402-472-3412 or tnaylor2@unl.edu.

Starting in Spring Semester, Love Library Extends Hours

By popular request, Love Library will extend its regular hours during the Spring semester from Midnight to 1:00 am.  The extension will take effect starting on January 13, 2014, the first day of spring semester and will be extended on Sunday through Thursday in the regular schedule.

If there are other suggestions or comments you have for the UNL Libraries to consider please participate in polls or use studies here: http://unl.libguides.com/ImproveUX

Thank you!

What is http://transcribe.unl.edu?

The best part about the internet, is that it’s searchable.  Looking for a good cookie recipe?  Search “Delicious cookie recipes” in google and you come up with a million answers.  Looking for how to make some great Christmas Ornaments?  Search “How to make great Christmas ornaments.”  Life is so much easier when things are searchable.

This is why the UNL Libraries have a very important project going on where many volunteers are needed to help.  The libraries are trying to make the UNL yearbooks searchable.  In order to do this people need to go through and write out what every page of every yearbook says word for word.  The project is halfway done, but in order to finish it more volunteers are needed!  So go to http://transcribe.unl.edu/ and starting transcribing so that this project can get done so alums, students, faculty and many more can search the yearbooks for what they’re looking for.
